4130 Steel
Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel and is considered low carbon steel. It has a density of 7.85 g/cm3 (0.284 lb/in3) and benefits from heat-treatment hardening.
4130 steel is easily cold worked, hot worked, and forged, but cannot be aged. It has excellent ductility when annealed and is a through-hardening alloy.
Before we process and machine our drill rods, we inspect each delivery and inspect them meticulously to ensure they are consistent and meet our stringent specifications.

Heat Treatment and Case Hardening
To ensure that the rods have a longer working life, our box threads are heat- treated twice, to better increase thread life, whilst our pin thread crest is hardened to 55HRC so that the threads wear more durably against each other.
But just to be sure, even the areas above the threads, that are exposed to the forces of foot clamps, chuck jaws & break-out tools, have been heat-treated, to ensure for better wear and longer life.

Drill rods are manufactured using the latest automation machines; this ensures that all drill rods are produced consistently, with minimal errors and well within our strict variances.
However, just to be sure, after each significant stage, a technician will provide a quality check, making sure that the machines are performing within their means.

Inspection of each drill rod
Technicians are stationed at each production stage, so that they may inspect the quality of the rods and ensure the machines are operating correctly.
The final inspection stage of the drill rods involves the following:
1.Standoff gap test – Each drill rod is tested for its standoff gap.
The rods are greased and then hand tightened (use of torque wrench for consistency), the gap must lie between 1.2-1.5mm to be accepted.
2.Zero gap test – after the standoff test, the grease is wiped clean and reapplied, before tightened to their specified operating torque and must show zero gaps to pass.
3.Flush test – Every joint is inspected, to ensure that the makeup joints sit flush.
4.True test – Every rod must spin straight and true. Therefore we visually inspect each rod by rolling them against a flat surface and gauge check 2 rods in each bundle to ensure that they fall within our accepted variance.

Guarantee
Taking responsibility for what we produce is the first step, that is why we laser stamps every drill rod with it is production time and date, as well as inscribe serial numbers on the threads which can be traced back to the rods production processes.
We are so proud and confident in the way our drill rods have been manufactured, that we stand by them with a limited 2 year warranty.
